Carlisle United boss Paul Simpson says the Blues will continue to “manage” Kristian Dennis’s fitness – with the help of a chiropractor.

The Blues’ top scorer has a persistent calf issue which has affected him in recent weeks.

Dennis has been able to feature in most games, though he missed the recent FA Cup victory over Tranmere Rovers because of the issue.

He was limited to a substitute role in Saturday’s goalless draw with Walsall.

And manager Simpson says it is crucial Carlisle remain on top of the issue and that 32-year-old Dennis can continue to train regularly.

“It’s a nerve issue that causes the discomfort,” said Simpson.

“We have a chiropractor who comes in weekly, he treated him last Thursday afternoon and he was fine to train on Friday.

“We’ll keep doing that, keep managing him.

“Kristian Dennis needs to train. He needs to train regularly.

“He’s not at the stage of his career and doesn’t have that physical profile that he can take a few days off.

“He needs to be training and it affects him if he doesn’t. it’s really important we keep on top of this issue, keep him out on the grass, and make sure he stays as sharp as possible.”

Former St Mirren, Notts County and Chesterfield man Dennis has been a key man for United this season with his ten goals in 18 appearances.

He came off the bench in the 67th minute against the Saddlers last Saturday.

The experienced frontman will hope to return to starting contention in this weekend’s trip to Salford City.
