Free-scoring former Carlisle United striker Andy Cook is in line for an award.

The prolific Bradford City frontman, who started out as a youth player at Brunton Park, has been shortlisted for the SkyBet League Two player of the month prize.

Cook, 31, hit five goals in four league games in September, and has fired 12 in 13 games already this campaign.

His award citation reads: "With new signing Vadaine Oliver competing for his place, Cook returned from the summer looking lighter, fitter and sharper. He already possessed a poacher’s instincts, evident in his five goals in four games, including three towering headers."

Cook's exploits for Mark Hughes' Bradford are the latest in a goalscoring career since he left Carlisle in 2011.

He was prolific for United's youth team under Eric Kinder and earned a professional contract but did not make a first-team appearance.

He went on to have spells with Barrow, Grimsby Town, Tranmere Rovers, Walsall and Mansfield Town before joining Bradford on loan in January, making the move permanent in the summer.

His rivals for the player of the month award are Northampton Town's Sam Hoskins, Leyton Orient's Dan Happe and Mansfield Town's George Lapslie.

The manager of the month contenders are Hughes, Orient's Richie Wellens, Swindon Town's Scott Lindsey and Northampton's Jon Brady. The winners are announced on Friday.
