Former Carlisle United midfielder Danny Devine has signed for a new club in National League North.

The ex-Blues man has joined Chester on a one-year deal.

Devine, who was released by United at the end of last season, had been on trial with Dundee earlier in the summer.

But now he drops down to non-league's second tier as he bids to kickstart his career at the Deva Stadium.

His colleagues at Chester will include fellow ex-Blues midfielder George Glendon, who has been ruled out with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

“Danny has played a host of Football League games and has been brought in largely on the back of losing Glenno and then Lewis Earl,” said Chester boss Calum McIntyre on the club website.

“We’ve gone from having real options to being light in the middle of the pitch in terms of genuine out and out midfield players.

“He is a great age and profile for us, and we are really pleased to add another player that can boast significant EFL experience as well being at an age and stage of their career where they are still as hungry as they could possibly be.

“We’ve worked hard to get this done and I’m delighted to add Danny to the group.”

Devine made 35 appearances in two campaigns for the Blues, having joined from home-city club Bradford City in 2020.

He could make his Chester debut against Brackley Town this weekend.
