A look at some of the latest rumours and news across Carlisle United’s division.

MARINER ON THE MOVE?

Grimsby Town star John McAtee is a reported target for Championship side Luton Town.

The 23-year-old has caught the eye in his key role in the Mariners’ return to the EFL.

And journalist Alan Nixon reports that Luton are working on a six-figure deal to take the forward up two divisions.

YOUNG GUNNER JOINS RED DEVILS

Crawley Town have signed Arsenal defender Mazeed Ogungbo on a season-long loan.

Kevin Betsy, whose side lost to Carlisle on the opening day, has returned to his former club to snap up the 19-year-old.

Betsy tod Crawley’s website Ogungbo was a “really talented young player”.

"He's a very good defender who is quick and has the ability to play in three positions,” Betsy added.

COBBLERS EYE ATTACKERS

Northampton Town boss Jon Brady says he is still in the market for attacking reinforcements.

The Cobblers, 3-2 winners over Colchester on the opening day, did not have any strikers on the bench.

And Brady told the Chronicle & Echo; “How many it'll be I don't know but the window is obviously open until the end of August so we are just trying to make it right for us.

"As you saw on Saturday, offensively, we needed something extra on the bench.

"With how the window has gone so far, we haven't found that type of player we want in offensive positions. Well, we have found players but we are just working on things at the moment. That's where we are at."

GILLS BOSS BLASTS ITALIANS

Gillingham manager Neil Harris has blamed the Italian FA for his unability to select new signing Lewis Walker against Wimbledon.

Walker was most recently with Serie D side Carpi after a previous spell with Como.

He joined the Gills on Friday but could not feature in the 2-0 defeat to Wimbledon.

Harris told the Kent Messenger: “We finally got him over the line but couldn’t involve him because the Italian FA were too slow with their paperwork and we had to have a youth player involved.”

HUGHES FRUSTRATED WITH TIMEWASTING

Bradford boss Mark Hughes could not hide his frustration after 10-man Doncaster held the Bantams to a 0-0 draw.

The Valley Parade manager said ref Bobby Madden did not act enough to stop some of the visitors’ antics.

Speaking in the Telegraph & Argus, Hughes said: “I spent an hour and a half with a couple of referees ten days ago saying that was one of their big things at the beginning of the season. I didn’t see any evidence of that unfortunately.

“The goalkeeper was the chief instigator really, slowing everything down and changing sides and waiting for everybody to get in position.

“It should have been stamped on by the referee much earlier than that and we might have had some semblance of a football match.”

LOAN MOVES FOR EXILES

Young Newport County pair Joe Woodiwiss and Lewys Twamley have joined Pontypridd United on loan until January.

They will continue to play for the Exiles’ development squad during their loan period, the club said.

The double deal will help the two academy graduates “get regular first-team men's football in order to aid their development.”

FAN ASSAULTED AFTER BARROW GAME

BARROW fan was 'seriously assaulted' after Barrow’s 3-2 win at Stockport.

Greater Manchester Police said: “A man in his 30s has been arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.

"Initial enquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have seen something is asked to contact us online via our LiveChat facility or by contacting us via 101 quoting incident 1300 of 30/07/2022.”

DONNY DEAL FOR TEEN

Teenage attacker Tavonga Kuleya has signed a two-year professional contract with Doncaster Rovers.

The academy product has impressed with the senior squad in pre-season.

Manager Gary McSheffrey told the club website: "He's put a lot of hard work in to get into the position he's in now."
