Paul Simpson is eyeing MORE transfer deals at Carlisle United - having also made a quick decision on the Blues' trialists.

Simpson, who today confirmed the signing of defender Ben Barclay, is keen for further business in the next 48 hours.

The manager said he is hoping to make another signing before Wednesday's friendly at Kendal Town.

A player could also leave the current Blues squad by then, Simpson said.

United boss also revealed that he will not be retaining any of the three trialists who played for Carlisle at Penrith in last Friday's friendly.

A goalkeeper, defender and forward have been let go after spending the early stages of pre-season with the squad.

"They were all good lads and they did well, but I don't believe in keeping people hanging around for the sake of it," said Simpson of the trialists.

"We weren't able to offer anything at this point so I've spoken to them and they've now left us.

"Like I say they worked hard with us through what was a tough week and we wish them well."

United's manager, speaking on the club website, raised the prospect of more transfer activity at Brunton Park when he said: "There’s nothing at the moment, but we have got discussions that are ongoing to get players in.

"It’s a possibility that we’ll be seeing one player move out as well.

“We’ll wait and see what happens over the next couple of days, but my ideal scenario is that we get another player in before Wednesday night, with one gone by then as well.

“As ever we have to wait and see what comes because everything changes so quickly in this mad world of football, and we’ve just no idea what’s coming next.”
