A former Carlisle United trialist goalscorer will come up against the Blues next season after joining one of their League Two rivals.

Frontman Kwame Thomas has signed for Sutton United ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Thomas was on trial with the Blues back in 2019 along with the likes of Aaron Hayden and Mo Sagaf.

While the latter pair went on to earn contracts, Thomas was released by then boss Steven Pressley despite scoring twice in a pre-season victory over Tranmere.

The 26-year-old has since gone on to play for Doncaster Rovers, Burton Albion and Wrexham.

Now, after being released by the National League big spenders, the ex-Derby, Coventry and Blackpool man has returned to Sutton where he had a loan spell in 2017.

He will replace ex-Carlisle striker Richie Bennett in the south London club's squad, after he rejoined Barrow.

Sutton boss Matt Gray told his club's website: "Kwame's a player I've liked for several years and he did extremely well against us for Wrexham in the National League and scored two goals against us up there.

"With Richie Bennett leaving us we need someone to come in and provide competition in the striking areas and Kwame will do that - he's a real handful and will fit in to our style of play."

Carlisle host Sutton on December 3 in the new season before heading to Gander Green Lane for their last game of the 2022/23 season on May 6.
