Details have been confirmed for Carlisle United's Carabao Cup first round clash at Shrewsbury Town.

The Blues were last week handed a trip to Montgomery Waters Meadow to take on the League One side in the competition.

And it has now been confirmed that the tie will be played on Tuesday, August 9, with a 7.30pm kick-off.

Ticket prices have also been confirmed as £10 (adults), £5 (concessions) and free for under-12s, with United saying they will confirm dates of sale once they receive their batch of tickets from the Shrews.

It is the second time in consecutive seasons that United will have faced Shrewsbury in cup competition, having lost 2-1 to Steve Cotterill's side in the FA Cup second round at Brunton Park last season.

The winner that day was scored by Carlisle-born former United man Ryan Bowman, who remains with the League One club.

The game also sees Blues boss Paul Simpson return to the club he managed from 2008-10.

Midfielder Jamie Devitt, should he earn a new contract with Carlisle, could also face one of his former clubs in the tie.

It will be a first trip to Shrewsbury's ground for the Blues since September 2014, when United lost 1-0 in League Two at a time they were under the caretaker management of Paul Thirlwell and Tony Caig before Keith Curle's appointment.

Their previous League Cup visit came in August 2008, when a Peter Murphy free-kick clinched a 1-0 win for John Ward's Blues against a home side managed by Simpson.
