Carlisle United will return to pre-season training today - as their hunt for new signings continue.

Paul Simpson and his coaching staff will begin to put their squad through their paces ahead of the new League Two campaign, which kicks-off on July 30.

Today's session will also see new recruits Tomas Holy and Owen Moxon work with the squad for the first time after the duo put pen to paper on two-year deals at Brunton Park.

And as Simpson and his staff begin their on pitch work, discussions will be ongoing behind the scenes as the Cumbrians look to continue adding to the squad - with recruitment chief Greg Abbott set for a busy few weeks as the club look to add further depth to their squad.

Eight players were released at the end of last season with a further two turning down new deals, although Jamie Devitt - who was not offered fresh terms - is expected to return to training with United in a bid to win a new deal.

That means there is still substantial rebuilding work to be done, and that remains the focus in the short-term.

Carlisle have been linked with moves for Fulham midfielder Sonny Hilton, Rangers wideman Josh McPake and free agent defender Kyle Jameson.

But while he waits for further signings, Simpson will have a strong core of players with which to work with on the first day of pre-season.

That will include first-year professionals Gabriel Breeze, Jack Ellis, Sam Fishburn, Max Kilsby and Scott Simons who will all be keen to impress.

The following players also remain under contract ahead of the return to training: Tristan Abrahams, Jack Armer, Lewis Bell, Kristian Dennis, Josh Dixon, Jordan Gibson, Callum Guy, Jon Mellish, Omari Patrick, Joel Senior, Tobi Sho-Silva and Corey Whelan.

Carlisle will have over a week to begin their work on the grass before their first pre-season friendly, which comes at Penrith on July 1.
