As is the case every summer, a number of players have been linked with Carlisle United - but what is the current state of play with those individuals?

With Paul Simpson and new head of recruitment Greg Abbott set to reshape the squad this summer, there are set to be a number of new players arrive in the the coming weeks.

Owen Moxon and Tomas Holy have already put pen to paper at Brunton Park, and they won't be the last new faces through the door.

But who has been linked with the Blues, and what is the current situation? We take a look:

Josh McPake

As he was in the January transfer window, Rangers winger McPake has been linked with a move to Brunton Park.

The 20-year-old spent time on loan with Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers last season but failed to make a real impact at either club.

But he is highly-rated by the Ibrox side and is said to be attracting interest from a number of clubs this summer.

Hartlepool United are said to have enquired about his availability, while recent reports have claimed that Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva are keen on a loan move with an option to buy.

However, it has been suggested that Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst could opt to assess McPake in pre-season before sanctioning any form of exit.

Sonny Hilton

The Fulham youngster caught the eye in Premier League Division 2 last term, captaining his side to the title and contributing nine goals and 12 assists.

A former England youth international, Hilton was said to be interesting Carlisle this summer with a loan move a potential option.

Having only been out on loan once before - which was a brief spell in Finland - the attack-minded midfielder could benefit from more exposure to senior football.

But there is likely to be interest from across League Two, and potentially above, in a player who shone so consistently last season.

Dynel Simeu

If there was a possibility to bring popular loanee Simeu back to Brunton Park then it's likely an option Carlisle would seriously explore.

But at present, the expectation is that Southampton will look to assess the youngster in pre-season and then potentially send the centre back to a higher level.

That was something Simpson conceded at the end of the season, so other targets in central defence will also be being pursued.
