Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson is attracting interest from Championship side Middlesbrough - according to reports.

But the Manchester United man is thought to have his sights set on a move to the Premier League.

Henderson, 25, spent the majority of last season as second choice to David de Gea at Old Trafford having lost his place at the start of the Premier League campaign due to Covid-19.

And he has been heavily linked with a move away from the Red Devils this summer as he seeks regular first team football.

Newcastle United have been touted as potential suitors for a number of months, but recent reports suggest that a move to St James' Park isn't currently on the cards.

The Sun, however, report that there has been interest from Championship side Middlesbrough.

Boro boss Chris Wilder was keen on a move for Henderson, who he worked with during his previous job at Sheffield United.

The Teessiders were even reportedly prepared to pay up to £40,000 towards the goalkeeper's wages, but the former Carlisle United academy player has his sights set on the top flight.

Middlesbrough could instead move for fellow Manchester United man Tom Heaton, according to the report.

This summer's transfer rumours surrounding Henderson raised hopes of a windfall for his former club, Carlisle United - with the Blues holding a sell-on clause after seeing the academy product to join the Red Devils.

However, the prospect of a handsome sum heading to Brunton Park in the short-term now looks to be fading.

United co-owner Steven Pattison said recently that Henderson staying at Manchester United and establishing himself could actually prove more lucrative for Carlisle.
