There were two familiar faces in the crowd as Port Vale won the League Two play-off final at Wembley.

Carlisle United co-owner John Nixon was sat with other club and EFL directors as the Valiants beat Mansfield Town 3-0 to reach League One.

And Blues striker Tobi Sho-Silva also had a good view of the action and the celebrations from a row behind.

Nixon, United's 'director of external affairs', is also League Two representative on the EFL board.

He was sat next to Port Vale co-owner Carol Shanahan and EFL chairman Rick Parry as the action unfolded and then the Valiants celebrated promotion.

Sho-Silva, meanwhile, had Peterborough director of football Barry Fry for company as he also watched the final from the executive seats.

Port Vale sealed a return to the third tier thanks to goals from Kian Harratt, James Wilson and Mal Benning.

Former Carlisle striker Jamie Proctor came off the bench for Darrell Clarke's sid while David Amoo was an unused substitute.

There were emotional scenes at the end of the game as Vale manager Clarke dedicated the result to his daughter Ellie, who tragically died in Feruary aged 18.

Clarke said: "I've worked so hard over the last few days certainly to control those emotions but then they all came out when it was nearly the end and we were in a great position.

"It's special. Special for my eldest daughter who we lost this year, special for my family that have gone through tough times.

"I think she was up there kicking every ball for me. I dedicate that to my daughter."

The outcome means another trip to the One Call Stadium for Carlisle United next season, Nigel Clough's Mansfield having fallen at the final hurdle in their bid to return to League One for the first time since 2003.
