A former Carlisle United loanee has extended his stay with League Two rivals Salford City.

Defender Ashley Eastham has signed a new one-year deal at the Peninsula Stadium.

It is an early piece of business completed by the Ammies since the appointment of Neil Wood as their new boss.

Eastham has been with Salford since January 2020, making 80 appearances since then.

His spell at Brunton Park proved short-lived in the 2010/22 season, the centre-half making one appearance whilst on loan from Blackpool.

That came against Tamworth in the FA Cup.

Eastham, speaking on the Salford website, said: “I spoke with the new manager over the past week, and I really wanted to commit to this project going forward.

“The new manager explained he’s got fresh ideas, and ideas that I certainly want to get involved in with this group.

“From a personal point of view I feel like there’s a bit of unfinished business, I’ve been here a couple of seasons now and I’ve certainly not yet achieved what I set out to do from a collective and an individual point of view."

In another piece of League Two news today, play-off finalists Port Vale have handed manager Darrell Clarke a major new deal.

He has signed a five-year contract keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027.

Vale face Mansfield Town in the play-off final on Saturday.
