Former Carlisle United frontman Gavin Reilly is back on the move north of the border.

The striker has rejoined former club Queen of the South on a two-year deal.

Reilly has most recently been on Livingston's books, also spending time on loan from Morton last season.

But he has now returned to the Doonhamers, where Reilly had originally made his mark as a young player for the Dumfries club.

The 29-year-old, who was with United in the 2020/21 season, said: "It's great to be back

"I had good times here in my first spell and always hoped to be back at some point.

"I hope to replicate the form from my first spell. It’s a place I love playing and having the relationship with the club that I do made it a 'no brainer'."

Reilly, after launching his career north of the border with Queens, had spells with Hearts, Dunfermline and St Mirren.

He then moved south of the border and, after a stint with Bristol Rovers and a loan spell at Cheltenham, joined Carlisle in a permanent deal in the summer of 2020/21.

But it proved a short-lived spell in Chris Beech's squad as Reilly, after 21 appearances and one goal, left the Blues midway through the campaign.

After a season on Livingston's books, and a 35-game, six-goal spell with Morton, he now returns to Dumfries in a bid to help Queen of the South bounce back from relegation to Scotland's third tier.

Manager Wullie Gibson, whose career included a spell at short-lived Carlisle non-league outfit Celtic Nation, told the Queens website: "I'm delighted to get a player of Gav’s quality back at the club.

"We have seen at first hand the quality Gav has and will add to the squad."
