Carlisle United's League Two rivals Hartlepool United have released four players - including two former Blues.

Striker Olufela Olomola and midfielder Martin Smith have been informed they are not being retained by the north east club.

But two other ex-Carlisle men - Gary Liddle and Jordan Cook - have been offered new terms at Victoria Park.

Former Brunton Park loanees Olomola and Smith are among four pros let go by the Monkey Hangers, along with Zaine Francis-Angol and Josh MacDonald.

Striker Olomola, who was with Carlisle in the 2019/20 season, joined Pools last summer from Scunthorpe United.

He scored one goal in 17 appearances last term - a penalty against Carlisle at Brunton Park in the Papa John's Trophy last August.

Olomola, 24, spent two months on loan with Yeovil Town in the second half of the season.

Midfielder Smith, meanwhile, leaves Hartlepool after a season.

Having joined the club from Chesterfield, he made 15 appearances last term.

Smith had a loan spell at Brunton Park from Sunderland in the 2015/16 season under Keith Curle, making two outings.

Managerless Pools have, though, offered experienced defender Liddle the chance to extend his stay at Victoria Park.

The 35-year-old has been offered a new contract along with ex-Blues loan forward Cook plus Timi Odusina, Luke Molyneux and Mark Shelton.

Pools dismissed manager Graeme Lee before the end of the season, with former Leeds United, Blackpool and Fleetwood Town boss Simon Grayson currently the odds-on favourite for the job.
