Brad Carroll has left Workington Reds after three-and-a-half years with the club.

The popular midfield man has turned down the chance to extend his stay at Borough Park.

Reds said the 25-year-old former Kendal Town man had decided to seek a new challenge in his career.

Returning Reds manager Danny Grainger said the club had made Carroll a good offer to remain in west Cumbria.

"We made Brad our best offer to keep him at the Reds, but he made us aware he was seeking a new challenge in his career," Grainger said.

"He has been a great servant to the club and I'm sure the fans' favourite will be missed.

"However, we will move on and seek to strengthen the squad."

Grainger recently confirmed his return to Borough Park for a second spell in charge.

The former Carlisle United captain has signed a two-year deal following the departure of Chris Willcock.

It came as Reds missed out on promotion from NPL West in the play-offs.
