Peter Murphy's Annan Athletic have it all to do to salvage their promotion dream after defeat in the first leg of their play-off final.

Murphy's side went down 2-0 to Edinburgh City last night.

Second-half goals from Innes Murray and Ryan Shanley gave Alan Maybury's side the clear advantage at the halfway point in the tie.

It all now comes down to the second leg at Galabank on Friday as Murphy's side bid to overturn the deficit and reach Scottish League One.

The televised encounter at Ainslie Park saw Annan go in level at the break with keeper Greg Fleming producing some good saves for the visitors.

But they went behind early in the second half when Murray broke onto a pass and dinked the ball past the onrushing Fleming.

And just after the hour mark Shanley made it two when he beat Fleming with a well-placed free-kick.

Annan couldn't find a way back on a rainswept night in the capital, with Scott Hooper coming close for Murphy's side late on.

Former Carlisle United favourite Murphy is hoping to steer his side to promotion in his fifth season at the helm.

Annan finished third in League Two, seven points ahead of fourth-placed Edinburgh.

Kick-off on Friday is 7.30pm and the second leg is being televised on BBC Alba.
