Tobi Sho-Silva and Jamie Devitt will miss out on the chance of a final Carlisle United appearance of the season.

But teenager Jack Ellis is very much in the frame for another outing against Bradford City, manager Paul Simpson says.

Simpson had hoped striker Sho-Silva and midfielder Devitt might be fit for the last outing of the 2021/22 campaign.

They will not, though, feature at Valley Parade according to the United boss.

“Tobi’s been out on the grass running today but he’s still getting some discomfort in his knee,” Simpson said.

“To be honest, the most important thing with Tobi is he’s fit for the start of pre-season. That’s a no-brainer.

“I’m not taking any chances with him whatsoever. He’ll be left to make sure he does his rehab properly and he’s flying when we come back on June 22.”

Devitt has been working his way back from a hamstring injury but Simpson said the former Bradford loan player will not face his former club.

It means the experienced schemer is denied the chance of a final Blues outing before a decision on his future at the end of his half-season deal.

“Jamie hasn’t trained. He’s still not right,” said Simpson.

“He still wants to come to the game and support us.

“We’ve got a few little things we need to consider before the weekend, niggles and illnesses,” the manager added.

“As it stands I’m struggling to fill the bench with players we’ve got unavailable, but we’ll see what happens come the weekend – we’ve still got time so hopefully there’ll be recovery from a couple.

“I’ll fill it with young players if we don’t have the pros fit, but in an ideal world I’ll have the pros who’ve been the group over the past ten and a half weeks to be part of it this weekend.”

Cumbrian defender Ellis impressed on his senior debut against Stevenage last weekend and looks set to be in the mix against Mark Hughes’ Bradford.

“He didn’t do himself any harm whatsoever,” said Simpson of the 18-year-old from Staveley.

“He is certainly in the forefront of my thinking for the game on Saturday.”
