Carlisle City chalked up a fifth straight win as their climbed to third in Northern League Division Two.

Jim Nichols' free-scoring side saw off Easington Colliery 4-1 at Gillford Park on Easter Monday.

City conceded early in the home encounter but hit back after the break with a quickfire barrage of goals.

In-form Sam Atkinson added to his Good Friday hat-trick against Chester-le-Street with the leveller.

They then went in front through Jordan Palmer before a further effort from Atkinson, followed by an Adam McGuinness own-goal, wrapped up the points.

They moved up to third and are four points behind second-placed Boldon with four games in hand as they remain firmly in the promotion shake-up.

Leaders Heaton Stannington are eight points clear of City having played two games more.

Nichols' side will hope to press home their challenge against bottom side Durham City next weekend.

They are also building up to the Cumberland Cup final against Wetheriggs United next Tuesday.

Nichols' side have hit an impressive 106 goals in 37 games so far in the league campaign.
