Carlisle United fans have been reflecting on the Blues' survival and hoping for a better future under Paul Simpson.

Supporters gave us their views on the Easter Monday win over Mansfield Town, and what needs to happen next, on Twitter after the game.

Here is a selection.

"I walked in the house, smiled at my wife, put my hands in the air and said, 'We're safe'...Two months earlier I had my head in my hands after returning from the Swindon game - I thought it was over. And what an entertaining game to see us over the line. Thanks Simmo" (@matty017)

"We rode our luck and also had Howard to thank for a scoreless first half. Second half a different attitude, a stronger mentality. Best half by United all season, Riley's mazy run the highlight. Well done lads and thank you Simmo. Now to get Simmo and players contracts sorted... (@BruceVander)

Swindon was almost two months to the day. After that, I thought we'd be down even before now. Incredible turn around. Today was another example of the difference a very good manager can make. He's not changed the players, he's simply got them playing. Honestly, it's a miracle. (@1StevieKilner)

Hard fought second half to grind out a brilliant win. The boys did good to keep Mansfield at bay until the final whistle. (@richards_avril)

Sooooo, once the football broke out in the second half it was brill. Thrills and spills all the way...all I can say is well done all the boys who made it happen. And thank the Lord there's no VAR in League Two. We are saved!! (@LindaNi121202)

Much better team performance with Jon Mellish playing in the back five, he's definitely not a midfielder. (@stansancuk)

Brilliant to seal survival with a win. Much better having the back five. Joe Riley was excellent today and another bit of skill for the goal by Omari Patrick. Players showed plenty of fight and could have won it comfortably. (@Philbell719Phil)

Good game. We looked much better today with a return to Mellish and Riley at the back. Alessandra did a lot of good work too. Howard made a couple of top saves at 0-0 as well. Sort the ownership/debt, keep Simmo, raise standards and build the club up again. Up the Blues. (@BenJoseph0157)

A real team effort. Not one poor performance. Pretty solid and created plenty, although wasted some good chances. Signs are very encouraging if Simpson is given the wherewithal to take us forward. If not, we could be back to square one almost as quickly as we got here. (@DRNoble25)

Well done the players, staff and obviously Simmo. As good as it was today - and it was good - this summer it's up to the three men in charge. That's where it stops for me. As much as I'd love Simmo to stay it ain't up to me. (@Alan69333548)

Probably the best game of the season at Brunton Park, and safety guaranteed. Great day. (@RonnieSmith1964)

First 20 minutes was rough, but lads built into it. The atmosphere on and off pitch completely changed with the goal. I thought we should have had three easy. Was good to see Alessandra playing well - man of the match for me. Great result. (@EarnThtDanegeld)

I left the Swindon match where the atmosphere was the most toxic I’ve seen at BP and was resigning myself to National League football next season. The turnaround under Simmo has been nothing short of amazing. Credit to all at the club (@sirstanley129)

Great second half and fully deserved the win in the end. Their non-goal cancelled out by our non-offside. Great feeling to do it on our own instead of relying on defeats elsewhere. (@mtuj1974)

After we scored, the game opened up and Mansfield left gaps at the back, enabling us to create some excellent chances with some good direct play. Riley's run and shot was fantastic, what a goal that woud have been. Now we are safe, time to take the club forward with Simmo. (@peterjo91525330)

All I can say is...it's never dull supporting CUFC. Praise should be heaped on Simmo in firstly agreeing to come back. Secondly giving the players confidence and belief they could get the job done. Now get Simmo signed up and let the good times roll (@tracy_sturgess)

Mansfield played some good football but we showed them too much respect in the first half and we rode our luck at times. Completely different second half and we forced them to revert to plan B. Awesome performance boys!! (@3ddiew)

Show of character to respond after being so under the cosh in the first half. Looked like a different team in the second. The players are doing everything for Simpson and the fans. The board should do the same. (@nathan_ridley_)

That back five is key. Mellish so much better in there than McDonald. Dickenson did well in midfield as did Gibson and the front two were both good. Riley MOTM. Lucky with the one off the bar but really should’ve scored three or four in the second half. Give Simmo everything he wants (@parkinsonross)

After Millen and Swindon, couldn't see this day coming and it's all thanks to Paul Simpson. First half we were poor, couldn't get the ball. Second half came the goal and confidence flowed almost immediately. So now we're safe will the three clowns get act together and sign Paul up?.. (@ericgreen866)

Best game of season, second half was the best performance of the season - whole team magnificent. (@jpastalker)

Plenty to complain about in the grand scheme of things with regards to our situation off the field and the need for Simmo's miracle, but right now I'm going to have a pint and be happy about the result and staying up. (@krisfoster)

At the beginning of February I was so sure we were going down. Thanks Simmo for saving us with three games to spare #SimmoIsAHero (@topsandollie)

He came. He saw. He miracle-ised our survival. Is that a word? If not it should be. (@NotInSeddon)

Why it took so long to change Keith Millen is beyond me..he must have been a cheap option as we know that’s how our owners work but we CANNOT ever be put in that position again (@martincosgrove)

Rode our luck a little in the first half but they are a very good side and that was to be expected, stepped it up and took it to them second half and I think it's the best half of football I've seen from us since Simmo's return. Riley was immense and Alessandra deserves a mention (@phleaslittle)

All credit to Paul Simpson for the way he’s turned things around. Vital that it’s made possible for him to stay on next season. (@ctrlamb)
