Battling former Carlisle United favourite Danny Livesey played for more than an hour with a fractured collarbone last weekend.

The ex-Blues stalwart defied the injury to help National League North side Chester to a 4-0 win against Kettering on Saturday.

The 37-year-old, who played for the Cumbrians from 2004-14, suffered the injury early in the game but was not substituted until late in the second half.

Chester revealed the details on social media and said: "We can confirm Danny Livesey is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a fractured collarbone on Saturday.

"Danny picked up the injury in the 15th minute, but played on before being substituted on 76 minutes with the Blues four goals up.

"Speedy recovery, Danny!"

Livesey recently returned from a hamstring injury to make an impressive comeback in Steve Watson's side.

It is the veteran centre-half's third campaign with 16th-placed Chester, Livesey having also acted as caretaker manager earlier this season after the departures of Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley.

He is one of a number of ex-Blues at Chester with Simon Grand, George Glendon, Louis Gray and George Waring also at the club.

The former Bolton man was an influential figure in United's rise from the Conference to League One under Paul Simpson from 2004-6 and then a consistent member of Carlisle's League One side for several seasons.

He made 333 appearances in total for United.
