A week is a long time in football - just ask Carlisle United's fans.

Seven days on from the despondent defeat to Swindon Town, the Blue Army were revitalised by the return of Paul Simpson and the 1-0 win at Leyton Orient.

Supporters gave us their views in their droves on Twitter after Saturday's game - here's a selection.

Brilliant. United back on track, hopefully. All the squad fought for the points, but the support made it and drove the lads on. (@BruceVander)

One swallow doesn't make a summer, but what a return for Simmo, Now there is a chance of escaping the dreaded drop. Simmo is just the man to succeed, shame it has taken so long for the penny to drop in the boardroom. (@peterjo91525330)

How one week and one man can make a difference. Getting rid of DH and KM and replacing them with Simmo is all it took to get us fans back onside. We’ve reason to get behind them again. Top result today, hopefully onwards and upwards! Up the Blues (@AdWhitfield94)

What a difference a week makes. Wow. (@RyCUFC)

Last Saturday evening to Tuesday I dont think I've ever been so depressed and pessimistic about football. Wednesday to now I dont think I could have been happier. Feels so good to be able to smile after a game!!! (@DavidDe21150149)

Great atmosphere. Could have made it safe with a bit more composure but haven't experienced an atmosphere like that for a long time. The good times are back. (@timgv123)

The forethought that went into today’s squad in three days is nothing more than amazing. (@richards_avril)

Massive win! What a difference since Wednesday morning, everyone has belief again. COYB (@Philbell719Phil)

From despondency to hope in one week. Clean sheet, away win, six-pointer, fans ecstatic, club legend at the helm. It’s still likely to go to the wire again but at least it feels like we now have a decent chance. (@angloscott188)

Big win. Sounded like a bit more fight in there. However need to back it up at home on Tuesday. Clear Dennis, Devitt and Patrick will be key for the rest of the season. (@parkinsonross)

A vital win against a poor team even lower in confidence than we were. Bit more fight and organisation, with the sending off definitely helping as well. Hope we take a positive attitude into Tuesday. #jenkinsout (@ticketaddict)

This result tops off a perfect week, no matter what happens from now and the end of the season there is genuine hope and a connection between the fans and the club again. (@Cufc1986Matt)

Best away day out in ages. Team battled harder than they have for a long time. Travelling support immense. Simmo’s appointment has breathed new life into the club. Thought Feeney was excellent, best game Guy has had for a while. (@MartinScarboro4)

Great performance and win. It was like watching a different team!!! (@RonnieSmith1964)

Feel like this week as fans we’ve gone half the way to getting our club back. Anything is possible with Simmo. Not pretty, but the atmosphere every game til May is going to be ridiculous. (@k200494)

We have the belief! We have the fight! Big result which will give so much confidence. (@LEEROTHERHAM)

"The buzz is back, we're all excited" (@marktaylor10)

Incredible result, performances will get better but what a day to be a Carlisle supporter! (@Luke_Graham_)

Long live the king 👑 (@DavidOsborne_)

Tough fixture. Great start. Motivation now to crack on. (@NotInSeddon)

Can't complain with the result. Forwards still looked goal shy. Howard did well, thought Simeu was a rock. Gibson did well. Still didn't look to have the cutting edge up front. But three points is all that matters. (@FeelingHoly)

Today was a must win game.. a game we won… Simmo or not this was a valuable three points. (@Lee_Wilson_CUFC)

Amazing atmosphere...last 20mins were squeaky bum time, but hung on! (@DaveRG47)

Would have lost that with Millen in charge. Long way to go but great start. (@frostie_)

Early days, Orient had loads of possession but couldn't convert. A win is a win though. (@MickDay99)

Great start. Brunton Park will be absolutely bouncing on Tuesday! (@Bjafn_cufc)

Hanging on a bit towards the end but battled hard and a massive improvement on what we’ve seen recently. Can’t really fault anyone today, fingers crossed we back it up on Tuesday in front of a decent crowd, limbs when the goal went in, first time in a long time. (@NavyDave94)

One man, one goal. Ha, one mission. One heart, one soul. Just one Simpson. One flash of light. Yeah, one god, one Simpson! (@cumbrianbluess)

It's amazing what 1 man can do to a City, not just a club! (@CabezaJake)
