Bolton Wanderers are being kept waiting in their bid to make former Carlisle United star Kyle Dempsey their second Cumbrian signing of the transfer window.

The Trotters have targeted a deal for Gillingham captain Dempsey.

But Gills supremo Paul Scally has suggested that the Kent club have not yet received an acceptable offer for the Maryport midfielder.

Spekaing in Kent Online yesterday, chairman Scally admitted: "There is always interest in our players," but added there had been no "credible bids" so far.

Dempsey is a man in demand after his impressive showings for Gillingham over the past season and a half.

The Bolton News reported recently that Wanderers had tabled a bid for the 26-year-old, who joined Gillingham from Fleetwood in the summer of 2020.

The west Cumbrian burst through the ranks at Carlisle before joinng Huddersfield in 2015.

If Dempsey does eventually join Bolton, he will link up with another Cumbrian.

The former Carlisle academy player, 19, kept a clean sheet on his debut in a 2-0 win against Ipswich Town.
