Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson will get his first Manchester United outing for four months tonight - amid fresh transfer rumours.

The Whitehaven star is set to start against Young Boys in the Champions League.

It will see Henderson aim to impress new Old Trafford interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

The German coach plans to rotate his side with Man Utd having already qualified for the knockout stages.

That means only a second first-team appearance of the season for Henderson, whose last outing came in Augst in the Carabao Cup against West Ham.

It comes at a time the former Carlisle United academy keeper's future is the subject of fresh speculation linking him with a move.

The Manchester Evening News report that Ajax are interested in the 24-year-old England international.

They say the Dutch club held "exploratory talks" about Henderson whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was Man Utd's manager, and remain keen for a deal.

Henderson was expected to be first-choice keeper at Old Trafford this season, but the after effects of Covid-19 meant David de Gea started the campaign as first-choice - and the Spaniard has retained the position ever since.

There remains the possibility of a six-month of 18-month loan in the new year if Henderson remains second-choice under Rangnick.

The interim boss confirmed Henderson and Donny van de Beek would start against Young Boys.

He said: "They will both play in the first XI. I know Dean is a very good, ambitious goalkeeper."

Henderson's first-team progress at Man Utd benefits Carlisle financially under the terms of the deal that took him from the Blues to the Red Devils in 2011.

The Cumbrians would also be on alert for potential proceeds from a sell-on clause should Henderson ever depart Old Trafford permanently.
