Former Carlisle United assistant manager Tommy Wright has been suspended from football for six years - but is still allowed to coach.

The Football Association have today sanctioned Wright and former agent Dax Price over bribery offences.

Wright has been banned "from all football-related activity, except for coaching" for six years.

Price has been banned for nine years.

The Football Association said the breaches relate to rules concerning bribery offences contrary to both section one and two of the Bribery Act 2010.

The case involving Wright did not concern his time at Carilsle United, where he was assistant manager from 2018-19, but an earlier spell with Barnsley.

A statement on the FA website said: "Tommy Wright and Dax Price have been sanctioned for two breaches of FA Rule E3 respectively."

"Tommy Wright has been suspended from all football and football-related activity, except for coaching, for six years.

"The former Swindon Town FC caretaker manager and first team coach admitted two counts of 'requesting, agreeing to receive or accepting a financial or other advantage, contrary to section 2 of the Bribery Act 2010' and requested a paper hearing.

"Dax Price has been suspended from all football and football-related activity for nine years.

"The former registered intermediary admitted two counts of 'offering, promising or giving a financial or other advantage to another person, contrary to section 1 of the Bribery Act 2010' and requested a personal hearing.

"An independent Regulatory Commission subsequently imposed these respective sanctions, which were effective from Tuesday 16 November 2021."

Wright had coaching spells at Chesterfield and Barnsley before joining United under John Sheridan in the summer of 2018.

He had a brief spell as joint caretaker manager alongside Paul Murray and then went on to assist Steven Pressley before leaving Brunton Park in May 2019. He rejoined Sheridan at Swindon that July and left at the end of last season after a spell in caretaker charge.

In January 2020 Wright was given a 12-month suspended sentence in Southwark Crown Court after being found guilty of two charges of accepting a bribe whilst at Barnsley.

It followed an expose by the Daily Telegraph.
