Carlisle United slipped back into the League Two relegation zone after their 2-1 defeat at Exeter City.

Jordan Gibson scored late on for the Blues but it proved a consolation goal after Jon Mellish’s red card was followed by two Grecians’ goals.

Fans gave us their views on the performance and result on Twitter after the game.

Strange, but even in defeat there were signs of hope. United were the better side until Mellish's madness. Milllen has brought order and ideas. We still need to find someone to get some goals. Abrahams did well and Gibson caused Exeter lots of problems. Down but not out. (@BruceVander)

Predictable after the red card but at least we didn’t crumble. Unless we get two decent forwards in straight away in January we are down. Can’t score enough goals. That was obvious after the first few games. (@MartinScarboro4)

Plenty of positives for me - workrate excellent, worked the ball well, caused them problems and deserved more from the game for me. Abrahams best game for us but Gibson MOTM. (@leerooney)

An unnecessary and poor tackle from Jon Mellish. Good fighting performance from us but we have no bite. We have to get some points on the board next week otherwise it is going to be a bleak winter. (@peterjo91525330)

Could have won it with 11 men, the ticking time bomb that’s Mellish finally erupted. Rest of the team played well but need a striker asap. Call Danny Graham quick. (@Senile_Owl)

Gonna be honest, I think we're doomed, players aren't good enough. (@kspr52)

Good performance overall and the red looked a bit harsh to me. Still need more up front but promising signs against one of the best teams in the division. (@stewelsh)

No bones about it, a relegation fight is on! (@jasonfidler7)

2-1 would’ve been a resounding success three weeks ago, to leave slightly disappointed with ten men now shows we have improved and Millen deserves some credit! More positive than negative. (@stuferg1990)

Clearly better no doubt, but that Oldham comeback not great news tbh. Massive game next we need three points, sadly the change of manager should have been made sooner but how many times can we say that over the years (@keithelliott94)

We’ve changed with a new manager but it’s still clear we need a striker. Is January 31 too late and will he be a goal scorer or just an 18 year old from Villa or Newcastle to sit on the bench? Shame about today, if Mellish hadn’t been sent off we might have come away with something (@Alistairwest6)

Good display especially by MOM Gibson who never stopped in the whole game. Two poor goals conceded, three points lost thanks to stupid Jon Mellish and his deserved red card (@ericgreen866)
