Carlisle United have been handed a home tie against non-league minnows Horsham in the first round of the FA Cup.

The seventh-tier club will make the long trip from West Sussex to Brunton Park in the famous competition next month.

Horsham play in the Isthmian League Premier Division where they currently sit second bottom with five points from eight games.

They advanced to the first round proper for only the fourth time in their history by beating Woking 1-0 on Saturday.

Dom Di Paola’s side got the better of a team two divisions above them thanks to an 87th-minute free-kick by Tom Kavanagh at the Camping World Community Stadium in front of a 1,927 crowd.

That earned the Hornets £9,375 in prize money, while victory in the first round tie is worth £22,629.

The tie, which will see the struggling League Two Blues out to avoid a major upset in a first ever meeting with Horsham, will be played on the weekend of November 5-8.

If United are held to a draw they will have to go to West Sussex to settle the tie, with replays having returned to the competition this season up to and including the fourth round proper.

The draw was made this afternoon on ITV by Wes Morgan and Kelly Smith.

United's caretaker manager Gavin Skelton gave his reaction to the tie on the club website.

He said: "You always want to be drawn at home and that's something that hasn't happened for us too much in recent seasons.

"Horsham have had some good results to get this far and they'll want to carry that on.

"Woking are two divisions above them and that in itself is an excellent result - particularly when it's reported that they were missing some key players.

"It's one we can look forward to and it goes without saying that we'll approach it in the correct manner.

"Of course there's a lot of football for us between now and then, so that's where our focus will and has to be at this moment in time."
