Former Colchester and Swindon manager John McGreal has seen his odds slashed to 1/4 for the Carlisle United job.
McGreal is odds-on with Sky Bet to replace Chris Beech at Brunton Park.
The 49-year-old's emergence in the betting comes despite United today claiming they are not going to rush into a new appointment.
Caretaker boss Gavin Skelton is set to be in charge for Saturday's game against Tranmere, assisted by Eric Kinder.
Paul Tisdale is a distant second-favourite with Sky Bet at 10/1, with Danny Grainger 12/1 an Skelton 14/1.
Peter Murphy is 20/1.
Things are different with William Hill, who still have Grainger as 1/2 favourite.
McGreal is 9/1 with that bookmaker, with Tisdale 11/2 and Skelton 10/1.
