Bookmakers have been quick to instal caretaker Gavin Skelton as early favourite to replace Chris Beech as Carlisle United manager.

But a host of other names - some with Blues links and some without - are also in the running.

Assistant boss Skelton, who is in temporary charge along with experienced youth coach Eric Kinder, is 6/1 for the job with BetVictor and 5/1 with William Hill.

Next in the running are the out-of-work pair of John McGreal and Paul Tisdale, who are both 8/1.

McGreal had a short-lived spell at Swindon this summer, having previously been in charge at Colchester, while former Exeter and MK Dons boss Tisdale left Bristol Rovers earlier this year.

Former Cambridge and Notts County boss Shaun Derry is 10/1, along with former Shrewsbury chief Sam Ricketts, while William Hill have ex-Blues captain Danny Grainger, currently assistant head coach at Falkirk, at 10/1.

Options at 12/1 include ex-Macclesfield and Southend boss Sol Campbell, Beech's former Rochdale boss Keith Hill, ex-Mansfield manager Graham Coughlan and former Port Vale supremo John Askey.

At 14/1 are Robbie Stockdale, Ian Holloway, Kevin Nolan, Harry Kewell and Derek McInnes.

At 16s, meanwhile, is legendary ex-Blues defender Peter Murphy, who has earned plaudits for the job he is doing at Annan Athletic.

Kinder is also 16/1 along with former Blues winger Andy Welsh, currently boss of Bury AFC.

Other longer shots include Gary Johnson, Terry McPhillips, Russell Slade, Robbie Fowler, Michael Jolley and Alex Neil.

Fellow ex-Blues Zigor Aranalde and Matt Jansen are 25/1 - as are unlikely options such as ex-United bosses John Sheridan and Keith Curle, plus Graham Westley.

Legendary goalscoring goalkeeper Jimmy Glass is 50/1...
