Lancaster City's manager says Carlisle United are set to recall striker Sam Fishburn from his loan spell.

The teenager is likely to play one more game for the Dolly Blues before returning to Cumbria, Lancaster boss Mark Fell has said.

While United have yet to confirm the situation, the signs are that 17-year-old Fishburn's youth loan deal, which was due to run until January, will be cut short.

It comes amid loan interest in the young striker from higher leagues than Lancaster's Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Fell, speaking in the Lancashire Post, said: "We understand he will play Saturday and then he will go back to Carlisle.

"I think they have plans for him to be involved with them next week and I think they have had a lot of enquiries from clubs in higher divisions.

"So I get from Carlisle's perspective that they want to send him to the best level that they can."

Fishburn has scored eight goals in an impressive spell at the Giant Axe since joining in mid-August.

He was awarded the non-league club's player of the month award for August.

The striker, who was handed professional terms by United this summer after a prolific 2020/21 season in the Under-18s, has been watched by a number of potential loan suitors including, it's understood, some from the National League.

Carlisle have not yet commented but head coach Chris Beech is likely to clarify the club's position at his press conference on Thursday.

Lancaster face Ashton United on Saturday.
