Carlisle United boss Chris Beech says he will not go into “panic mode” by raiding the free agent market.

The Blues can sign unattached players outside the transfer window.

But Beech said he is approaching the possibility of further squad additions carefully.

And he said he will not risk a knee-jerk move that could backfire.

Asked by the News & Star if he could yet add to his squad, he said: “Nobody’s contacted us, and it’s important while we do look that, if we have interest in a player, it’s reciprocated.

“You can soon upset the changing room with a difference.

“Sometimes you can often think you’ve got the answer, [but] if you look at other clubs in our league…Leon Clarke makes his debut [for Bristol Rovers], scores a header, and the next minute he’s injured.

“It’s so difficult to get that right.

“I suppose if I looked at doing that now you’d probably get a lot of people saying, ‘He’s going into panic mode, he doesn’t know what he’s doing’.”

Beech said he will be happy with the squad at his disposal should no obvious opportunities come up in the free agent market.

“If it does happen it’s got to be the right person that fits us right,” he said.

“If it doesn’t, I’m very comfortable with what we’ve got.

“What we need to do is concentrate on how we do it and what we do within it.

“If the boys do that well, you’ve seen plenty [of evidence] in pre-season and early season that we’re capable of winning League Two fixtures.”
