A host of Carlisle United’s 1990s heroes are returning to the city next month for a long-awaited reunion.

The event at Harraby Catholic Club is the delayed celebration of the 1994/5 season, which saw the Blues win the Division Three title and reach Wembley for the first time.

The original reunion event, scheduled last year to mark the 25th anniversary, had to be postponed because of Covid-19.

But the sell-out celebration will finally take place on Saturday, October 9 on a night when ‘94/5 stars such as David Reeves, Derek Mountfield, Dean Walling, Rod Thomas, Tony Gallimore and boss Mick Wadsworth will be back in Carlisle.

Former BBC Radio Cumbria commentator Nick Barnes will be compere on a night when fans can relive memories of one of United’s most iconic campaigns.

There will also be a major auction of memorabilia to raise money for Eden Valley Hospice, in memory of former Blues favourite Tony Hopper.

The night is entitled ‘A trip down Wembley Way in a deckchair’ in tribute to the famous green, red and white away kit United wore that season. Organiser Colin Carter said anyone who has not yet received their tickets can collect them on the night.

He added that if supporters would prefer their tickets to be posted, to contact him on 07737265831.

“All the lads are so keen and enthusiastic about coming back,” Carter said. “It promises to be a great night to celebrate a truly memorable season - and for a great cause.”
