Cole Stockton's impressive rise since his disappointing spell with Carlisle United continues apace.

The Morecambe striker has been named League One's player of the month.

Stockton claimed the SkyBet prize for August after firing four goals in five games.

It saw the 27-year-old maintain impressive form for the Shrimps after he helped fire them to promotion last season.

It is a considerable improvement in fortunes for the frontman who had an underwhelming one-goal, 12-appearance  spell at Carlisle in the 2017/18 season.

Speaking on Morecambe's website today, he said: "I’m delighted. It’s great to be recognised as to what you’ve done for the starting month, and I’d love to go and do it again most definitely.

“On a personal note, I’m very delighted, it wouldn’t have come without the team as well.

“I’m forever grateful for being recognised to what you do and I’m just looking to go again.”

Stockton is in his third spell at Morecambe and signed a new deal at the Mazuma Stadium in the summer despite reports of transfer interest.

In League Two, Bradford's ex-Blues striker Andy Cook missed out on the player prize to Forest Green's Matty Stevens, with their boss Rob Edwards named manager of the month.
