Former Carlisle United striker Joe Garner has returned to English football.

The frontman has joined League One outfit Fleetwood Town after a spell in Cyprus.

Garner, 33, has signed a two-year deal under his former Preston boss Simon Grayson.

It follows a seven-month spell with Cypriot club APOEL.

Garner was prevoiusly with Wigan, Ipswich, Rangers and Preston.

The former Blackburn Rovers youth player had three spells with the Cumbrians.

After a loan stint in the 2006/7 campaign, he joined the Blues permanently that summer for a club record £140,000.

After being sold to Nottingham Forest for £1.14m the following year, Garner returned to Brunton Park on loan fom Watford in the 2012/13 campaign.

He netted 27 goals in 71 appearances for the Brunton Park club.

Fleetwood, who are 18th in League One, said they were "delighted" to have signed the experienced striker who they described as a "proven goalscorer".

"Garner will wear the number 14 shirt at the Cod Army and will meet his team mates on the completion of his compulsory travel isolation period this week," the club statement added.

Another former United forward on the move today is striker Gavin Reilly, who has joined Morton on loan from Livingston.
