Whitehaven RLFC have revealed Will Evans as their first new signing for 2022.

Director Ashley Kilpatrick, who is part of the club's overseas scouting network, said he was "absolutely delighted" to welcome a player who has represented Wales at international level in the nines in 2017 and also captained Queensland's under-16s.

Kilpatrick said: "We looked at bringing Will over this season but he wanted another season in Australia at Burleigh, which we totally understood.

"He came through the development systems at the Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans, as well as playing a good standard at Burleigh.

"He’s a centre who can cover the full back and wing positions."

Kilpatrick thanked Evans' agent, Clinton Schifcofske, who brought the player to the club's attention.

Evans' move has been helped by the fact he has Welsh heritage and he is expected to link up with Gary Charlton's squad at the start of January.

Jonty Gorley, who is Haven’s assistant coach and part of the club's football committee, said: “I'm delighted to have secured Will's services for next year.

"I really like what we’ve seen of him on his highlight reel; he looks quick, agile and good on his feet.

"He has come through some good systems in Australia.

"We’ve done our homework on Will and spoke to a couple of people Down Under who speak highly of Will, and one thing that stands out that has been mentioned is his attitude, which is good.

"Will's coming over like the three lads have done this year, chancing his arm with us, coming to have a dig and make a name for himself."
