Every single club in the Championship would be interested in snapping up former Carlisle United star Rory Delap's son Liam, reckons one manager.

The teenage striker is making impressive progress at Manchester City, where he was recently named Premier League 2 player of the season.

There has been speculation surrounding a loan move for the England Under-18 international.

And Millwall boss Gary Rowett has admitted the 18-year-old marksman would be in demand.

“Rory is a good friend of mine and he worked with me,” Rowett told the South London Press. “I know the family really well.

“Liam Delap, quite simply, is the best young striker around at the moment and every single Championship club, I’m sure, would be interested in taking him.

“Of course we’d be interested. But, at the same time, I’m sure everyone would be interested in him.”

Delap joined Manchester City from Derby in 2019 and has been a prolific goalscorer for their Under-23s, where he is a team-mate of Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford who recently joined Accrington Stanley on loan.

He also made a first-team breakthrough last season, scoring on his senior debut against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

Pep Guardiola rates the young hitman highly and may opt to involve Delap in his senior squad next season rather than send him out on loan.

Liam's brother Finn, meanwhile, is a centre-back now on the books of Burton Albion.
