Ex-Carlisle United man John O'Sullivan has left promoted Morecambe and joined Accrington Stanley.

The winger, who helped the Shrimps reach League One, used social media to tell fans he was moving on.

And shortly after it was confirmed he had rejoined Stanley on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old had two previous spells with Accrington.

The move comes after a season when the former Blues player had a key part in Morecambe reaching the third tier for the first time.

O'Sullivan had been offered a new deal at the Mazuma Stadium, where Stephen Robinson has replaced Bradford-bound Derek Adams at the helm.

That followed their play-off final victory over Newport, when Irish winger O'Sullivan won the decisive penalty which saw Carlos Mendes Gomes shoot Morecambe to Wembley victory.

But after joining Accrington, boss John Coleman said: "I have known Johnno a long time, I obviously signed him for two loan spells here and signed him for Southport as well.

"Whenever he has been with us, he has done well. He knows us inside out and his type of character fits with the Accrington mould and he is a very good footballer.

"He has always played well for us and hopefully he will hit the ground running after a big season last season."

O'Sullivan added: "John and Jimmy [Bell] have always got the best out of me, they know me best.

"I have had two good loan spells at Accrington and I played some of my best football last season so hopefully I can carry this on. I can't wait for the season to start now."

Ex-Blackburn man O'Sullivan was with United for a season and a half from 2017-18, and scored twice in 2017's play-off games against Exeter.

Fellow ex-Blue Cole Stockton recently signed a new deal at Morecambe, but Nathaniel Knight-Percival has joined Tranmere.
