Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson has withdrawn from England's Euro 2020 campaign with injury.

The Three Lions have today confirmed that the Manchester United star has pulled out of the squad because of a hip problem.

Sheffield United's Aaron Ramsdale has taken his place in Gareth Southgate's squad.

It comes after Henderson was not involved in yesterday's session as England started preparations for Friday's group game against Scotland.

Details of the problem were not initially clarified, with Sky Sports News reporting that Henderson did not train as a "precaution" as a result of the unspecified "niggle".

But confirmation has now been given on the Whitehaven star's problem.

In a statement, England said: "Aaron Ramsdale has replaced Dean Henderson in England’s UEFA EURO 2020 squad.

"Henderson withdraws with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the tournament.

"Under UEFA regulations, squads are permitted to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage.

"The Manchester United goalkeeper will now return to his club for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021-22 season."

Henderson had also missed a training session last week but took his place among the subs and took part in the warm-ups for Sunday's 1-0 opening win over Croatia.

Former Carlisle academy keeper Henderson, 24, had been second-choice to ex-Blues loanee Jordan Pickford in Gareth Southgate's squad, with Sam Johnstone the other goalkeeper in the ranks.

Henderson, who has one full international cap, was named in the senior squad at a major tournament for the first time after his first-team breakthrough campaign at Man United.

After a season when the Cumbrian ousted David de Gea from the Red Devils team, former Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho has been singing Henderson's praises.

Speaking in The Times, the legendary manager said he believes the talented Cumbrian has a big future.

“I think they [England’s three keepers] are good goalkeepers. I don’t think they are phenomenal goalkeepers or, in Dean Henderson’s case, not yet phenomenal. When I say not yet, I say he will be,’ Mourinho said.

“I met him at [Manchester] United when he was a kid and I always remember him asking me to go on loan. He was saying, 'When I come back, I come back to be the No1'.

"He told me that when he was the fourth choice. He is a kid with an incredible self-confidence and I think he is ready."
