Former Blues Cole Stockton and Nathaniel Knight-Percival will today bid to send Morecambe into League One.

The ex-Carlisle United men will be part of a Shrimps side who face Newport County at Wembley in the fourth tier play-off final (3pm).

Morecambe, who also have ex-United winger John O’Sullivan in their ranks, are hoping to reach the third level of English football for the first time.

It would cap an impressive season under manager Derek Adams.

The Morecambe boss said in the Sunday Post: “It has been a difficult season for everyone with the pandemic. So to finish fourth, and from that get to a play-off final, we are all delighted.

“And it is especially pleasing because I know we have really progressed in my 18 months at the club.

“We are one game away from League One. Now we just have to get over the line.”

Newport boss Michael Flynn is hoping for a victory that he believes will give the Exiles a "platform" for further progress.

Speaking in the South Wales Argue, he said: "We've come a long way since me and Wayne [Hatswell, assistant manager] took over.

"It's been positive all the way and the only thing missing is a promotion. That's what we want more than anything.

"There is a lot of work that still needs to be done by the club and hopefully this will give us the platform to improve in areas where we need to."
