Former Carlisle United strikers Jerry Yates and Gary Madine were celebrating after helping Blackpool gain promotion to the Championship.

Ex-Blues loanee Yates capped a fine season with a positive display in their 2-1 win over Lincoln at Wembley.

And frontman Madine came off the bench for the last 20 minutes as Neil Critchley's side sealed their place back in the second tier.

Yates, who was at Brunton Park in the 2018/19 season, was involved in both goals as Kenny Dougall netted twice for the Tangerines.

That helped them overturn a first-minute Ollie Turton own-goal.

It means a return to the Championship after six years in the lower leagues for the Bloomfield Road club.

It is also a major step in their renaissance under owner Simon Sadler, who took over after the departure of the controversial Oyston family.

The final was watched by 9,751 fans at the national stadium.

Yates, 24, has impressed with 23 goals this campaign after his move from Swindon. Madine, 30, has hit eight goals in the 2020/21 campaign.
