They have all worn a Carlisle United shirt at some stage over the last 13 years.

And now this bunch of ex-Blues are back on the market having been released by their respective clubs.

Here’s a rundown of the former Brunton Park players so far confirmed as free agents this summer.

JACK BONHAM – GILLINGHAM

Keeper Bonham was United’s No1 for most of the 2017/18 campaign under Keith Curle.

He was on loan from Brentford then, and after a further loan stint at Bristol Rovers, joined Gillingham in 2019. But the 27-year-old is seeking another move now after turning down new terms.

SHAUN BRISLEY – PORT VALE

Part of a four-man clear-out of former Blues at Vale Park, the big centre-half has left the Valiants after two seasons.

The 31-year-old made 34 appearances for the Blues in 2016/17, and also has spells with Macclesfield, Peterborough, Scunthorpe, Northampton, Leyton Orient and Notts County on his CV.

JAMES BROWN – MILLWALL

The former loan right-back, who was with United in the 2017/18 season, has left the Den after several years with the Lions.

Brown, 23, has only made four senior appearances for his parent club, instead gaining most of his first-team experience on loan with Carlisle, Livingston, Lincoln and, most recently, Scottish Cup winners St Johnstone.

ANDY COOK – MANSFIELD

A player whose goalscoring CV is sure to attract lower-league interest this summer, Cook is available after departing the One Call Stadium.

The ex-United youth marksman, now 30, finished last season on loan with Bradford, where he scored eight goals in 21 appearances. That followed past spells with Walsall, Tranmere, Barrow and Grimsby.

JORDAN COOK - GATESHEAD

Cook, who had a good loan spell with Greg Abbott's Blues back in 2012, finds himself on the move nine years on.

The 31-year-old former Sunderland man has been with Gateshead for most of last season but the club announced the forward was leaving after failing to agree new terms.

MARK CULLEN – PORT VALE

The experienced striker’s time at Vale Park is over after two years, 48 appearances and 11 goals.

Cullen, 29, joined the Valiants from Blackpool, from where he had an injury-hit loan spell with Carlisle in the second half of the 2018/19 campaign, after earlier stints with Luton, Stockport, Bury, Bradford and Hull.

GARY DICKER - KILMARNOCK

Dicker's five-year spell with Killie is over after he was named on the relegated Scottish club's end-of-season released list.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who was with Carlisle from 2014-16, will take plenty of experince to his next club after past spells with Brighton, Rochdale and Stockport.

CORRY EVANS - BLACKBURN

After eight years at Ewood Park, experienced Northern Ireland midfielder Evans is on the move.

His time with Untied was brief - a one-game loan spell in 2010 - while he will now seek to add another club to a CV that also includes Manchester United and Hull.

ALEX GILLIEAD – SCUNTHORPE

Gilliead, 25, has captained the Iron but that did not spare him from being released as part of a summer overhaul.

The former Newcastle midfielder had a bright loan season in Cumbria back in 2015/16, since when he has turned out for Luton, Bradford and Shrewsbury, before two years at Glanford Park.

ARTHUR GNAHOUA – BOLTON

Gnahoua’s United career didn’t live long in the memory – one brief sub outing in 2019, before injury intervened – and the attacker is now back on the market.

He made 30 appearances for promoted Bolton, mostly from the bench, and now the ex-Macclesfield, Shrewsbury and Fylde man, 29, will be on the move again.

HALLAM HOPE – SWINDON

Swindon signed attacker Hope from Carlisle in January 2020 in a bid to bolster their promotion-bound squad.

But a season-and-a-half later and he is one of the casualties of their relegation back to League Two, and the 27-year-old now seeks his latest club after past times with Everton, Northampton, Bury and Sheffield Wednesday.

LUKE JOYCE – PORT VALE

The vastly experienced midfielder Joyce, who had two spells with the Blues, finds himself seeking a new challenge after departing Vale.

The 33-year-old Joyce, who had three seasons at Vale Park, will be bidding to add to his hundreds of appearances clocked up at clubs including Vale, United and Accrington.

HARRY MCKIRDY – PORT VALE

McKirdy, a divisive figure at United in his top-scoring 2019/20 season, never made much of an impact for Vale after his move last summer.

The attacker, 24, found himself left out of their squad, and even turned out for Leicester’s Under-23s, before a brief return to the fold under Darrell Clarke. Where will the ex-Aston Villa forward wind up next?

SHAUN MILLER – BOLTON

Another experienced frontman back on the market, 33-year-old Miller must find new employers after being let go by promoted Bolton.

The man who was at Brunton Park from 2016-18 made 20 league appearances for the Trotters – all from the bench – and the former Morecambe, Coventry, Sheffield United and Crewe player must now take his services elsewhere.

JOSH MORRIS – FLEETWOOD

Part of the Kavalanche of United loanees in the doomed 2013/14 League One season – getting just six Blues appearances – Morris has since become an established third-tier performer since moving on from Blackburn.

But the midfielder, after three years at Scunthorpe and two with the Cod Army, now seeks a new home at 29.

OLUFELA OLOMOLA – SCUNTHORPE

‘Fela’, a six-goal United loanee in the 2019/20 season, is available this summer after ending his injury-hit time with Scunny.

Olomola, 23, got seven appearances last season and the former Southampton and Yeovil man will hope for an upturn in his fortunes at his next club.

TOM PARKES – EXETER

The defender who was a mainstay of United’s back four from 2017-19 is back available after being released by the Grecians.

Parkes, 29, spent the last two seasons in Matt Taylor’s side but the former Leicester and Bristol Rovers player was deemed surplus to requirements at he end of the recent campaign.

JAMIE PROCTOR – ROTHERHAM

Best remembered at Carlisle for the goal at Exeter that clinched a play-off place in 2017, former Bolton loanee Proctor is available after the conclusion of his four-year stint.

That spell has seen loans with Scunthorpe, Fylde, Newport and Wigan, with 29-year-old Proctor now seeking a new permanent home.

STEVEN RIGG - DOVER

Cumbrian Rigg, who made a popular impact for United in 2014/15 after stepping up from Penrith, is seeking a new club after leaving National League Dover.

The 28-year-old forward from Keswick had been with the club for two years.

KEIREN WESTWOOD – SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

The most illustrious former Blue on this list, goalkeeper Westwood was released by the Owls after seven years.

The Republic of Ireland international, now 36, will always be fondly remembered for his brilliant Carlisle spell from 2004-8 – and go with good wishes from United fans wherever he ends up next.

TOM WHITE - BLACKBURN ROVERS

The former Carlisle youth team player, who was also a transfer target for the Blues a couple of summers ago, is available again.

White has had loan spells with Bolton and Hartlepool this season, after an earlier stint with Barrow, the 24-year-old midfielder now eyeing a new permanent destination.
