The marketplace is, as always at this time of year, now full of players looking for new teams.

Many clubs across the EFL have announced their retained and released lists.

Here, we pick out a few of the free agents available for moves after departing from clubs Leagues One and Two.

LEE NOVAK (released by Bradford)

The striker is 32 now, with plenty of goalscoring pedigree to his name, and on the market after leaving Valley Parade.

Novak, whose senior career began with Gretna, has totted up goals for Gateshead, Huddersfield, Chesterfield, Charlton and Scunthorpe over the years.

The north east native’s most recent campaign was hit by a knee injury, but Novak’s experience should still make him an interesting proposition in League Two.

HARVEY SAUNDERS (released by Fleetwood)

This is a name that’s been on Carlisle’s agenda in the past without success.

The forward’s impressive performances for Darlington caught the Blues’ eye but Saunders instead went to Fleetwood in League One.

The 23-year-old scored twice at Brunton Park in this season’s EFL Trophy but has ended the campaign on loan with National League side Hartlepool.

ANTHONY GRANT (released by Swindon)

Another highly seasoned campaigner on the market, Grant is among a host of players discarded by relegated Swindon.

The midfielder had been an influential player in their 2020 promotion under Richie Wellens, before the Robins crashed under John Sheridan.

The 33-year-old played 37 games last season and the combative Grant is likely to have suitors.

LUKE JOYCE (released by Port Vale)

If anyone in United’s division is looking for a dedicated pro with heaps of experience, Joyce could fit the bill.

The man who has had two spells with the Blues has hundreds of senior appearances to his name.

The 33-year-old was part of a clear-out by Darrell Clarke’s new broom at Vale Park, but Joyce’s work ethic and reliability ought to find him a good home.

MADGER GOMES (released by Doncaster)

Spanish-born midfielder Gomes has departed the League One club after 55 appearances in two years.

Gomes picked up the division’s player of the month award last September after a good goalscoring start to the campaign.

But he has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Keepmoat after the second half of his campaign saw him often restricted to substitute outings after returning from injury.

GEORGE BOYD (released by Salford)

He’s 35 now, and only mustered 14 appearances last season for the big-spending Ammies.

But could someone still try and tease some more late-career quality out of this classy operator?

The ex-Peterborough and Burnley star may not come cheaply, even at this stage. But Cambridge, with Wes Hoolahan, have shown it’s possible to build a team around a canny veteran.

FRANK NOUBLE (released by Plymouth)

Many moons ago, this was a player on United’s radar.

The ex-West Ham forward, though, has spent most of his career in the south, latterly with a loan return to Colchester.

He may end up there again. Either way, at 29 he knows the terrain at this level.

JIMMY RYAN (released by Rochdale)

Another man on the market with bags of experience.

Midfielder Ryan has played hundreds of games in a career which includes spells with Accrington, Scunthorpe, Chesterfield, Fleetwood and Blackpool.

Injuries limited him to 17 appearances for relegated Dale last term, but the 32-year-old’s pedigree still ought to attract attention.

TOM DAVIES (released by Bristol Rovers)

This centre-half is no stranger to Cumbria, having spent the second half of last season on loan with Barrow.

The experienced Davies performed well in the Bluebirds' survival fight.

He was, though, limited to 12 games, having been managed carefully following a return from injury. If he can play more regularly, the 29-year-old can certainly be an influential player at this level.

BYRON MOORE (released by Plymouth)

A familiar face in the lower leagues, Moore is available after struggling to hold down a regular place with Argyle in League One last season.

The former Crewe attacker is now 32 and has promotion know-how from spells under Ryan Lowe at Bury and Plymouth.

Someone in League Two is likely to want to add that experience to their forward line.
