Cumbrian Patrick Brough has been recognised for his excellent season with Barrow.

The ex-Carlisle United man has been voted players' player of the season at the south Cumbrian club.

And Brough also picked up the BBC Radio Cumbria player of the year prize after his exploits for the Bluebirds.

It caps a successful return to the Football League for the left-sided player from Silloth.

Brough, 25, made 45 appearances and scored six goals as Barrow secured survival in their first campaign back in the Football League for 48 years.

His goals included one against his former club in the 2-2 draw with United at Holker Street in April.

Brough was taken aback at the news he had been chosen by his team-mates as Barrow's top player of 2020/21.

Speaking to the club's official channels, he said: "It's the best one you can get. I'm chuffed. I don't really know what to say apart from thanks to all the lads for voting for me."

Brough, who has been dubbed the 'Cumbrian Carlos' by Barrow fans for his wing-back displays - in homage to the Brazilian great Roberto Carlos - has been with Barrow for two seasons.

He came through the youth ranks at Carlisle and made 49 senior appearances for the Blues.

He then moved on and had spells with Morecambe and Falkirk before joining Barrow in 2019 and playing a part in their National League triumph last year.

Brough came through the youth stages at Carlisle with Maryport midfielder Kyle Dempsey - who has also been voted player of the year this season for his displays with League One side Gillingham.
