Gime Toure is staying with Carlisle United for a second season.

The French attacker will remain at Brunton Park for the 2021/22 campaign, the Blues have today confirmed.

United revealed they had activated an option in the 27-year-old's contract before the final game of the season at home to Walsall.

They did not announce the news, though, until today's publication of their end-of-season retained and released list.

Boss Chris Beech, speaking on United's website, feels there is more to come from Toure.

He said: “Gime had a really good start to the season and then probably, even by his own admission, tapered off a little.

"On his day he can be unplayable, and it’s important to remember that this [was] his first season in league football.

“It’s a new club and new area for him and we’re in a situation where he’s not had an opportunity to play in front of our fans.

"Gime is the type of player that thrives off fan engagement - could you imagine the support he’d get from the Paddock as he ghosts past players and zones in on goal?

“I’d definitely rather have him with us than against us and we’ll be looking for him to deliver some game-changing performances.”

Toure's debut Football League season brought 38 appearances and four goals in all competitions.

The skilful attacker made 18 league starts and was United's most-used substitute with 16 league outings from the bench.

He got two league goals - against Forest Green and Southend - and two in the EFL Trophy against Fleetwood and Aston Villa Under-21s.

Toure joined the Cumbrians from Hartlepool last summer.
