Carlisle United 0 AFC Bournemouth 2: Morgan Feeney made his long-awaited first appearance as the Blues went down to an impressive Bournemouth side in the Central League Cup final.

The January signing, back from a broken foot injury, played an hour of the reserve showpiece at St George's Park.

It was ex-Everton and Sunderland defender Feeney's first taste of action in a United shirt after a luckless start to his Blues career.

It came as a young Carlisle side succumbed to first-half goals from Christian Saydee and Jaidon Anthony as Bournemouth won the reserve cup.

United had Gabriel Breeze to thank for ensuring it was not a heavier defeat, the keeper making a number of impressive saves.

Carlisle had few real chances, Gime Toure forcing a good save from Cherries keeper Will Dennis and sub Jack Ellis later testing the Bournemouth No1.

The Blues improved after a difficult start and gave their opponents a stronger second-half test.

But Shaun Cooper's side proved too strong for a United side comprised of young professionals and youth team players, along with senior men Toure and Feeney.

United started brightly but Bournemouth soon took control.

Breeze turned a shot against the bar but Shaun Cooper's side led on 11 minutes when Saydee drilled home a Ben Greenwood pass.

Bournemouth's passing and movement was a real test for United, Luke Nippard among those going close to a second.

Toure was denied by Dennis before Anthony converted a good Brooklyn Genesini pass.

Breeze did well to deny Anthony and Nippard, who later hit the post as United tried to battle back after the break.

Sub Ellis tested the Cherris keeper while Toure shot over after good work from Adam Walton.

Sam Fishburn then failed to connect well enough with a Ryan Swailes header as Bournemouth held on to claim the cup.
