He has hit the 30-goal mark in a prolific League One season.

And now former Carlisle United star Charlie Wyke is in the running to be named the division's top player.

The Sunderland hitman is on a three-man shortlist for the League One player of the year prize in the 2020/21 EFL Awards.

He is rivalled by Peterborough's Jonson Clarke-Harris and Hull's George Honeyman for the trophy.

Wyke, 28, is enjoying the most prolific season of his career and is hoping to fire the Black Cats into the Championship.

His double in a 3-3 draw with Accrington on Saturday meant he had hit 30 goals in 50 appearances this campaign.

It is the frontman's third season with third-placed Sunderland, having joined them from Bradford in 2018.

That followed Wyke's goalscoring emergence with the Blues, for whom he hit 39 goals in 89 outings from 2015-17.

He left for Bradford in January 2017 after the Bantams triggered a £250,000 clause in his United deal.

Sky Sports have claimed that Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Nottingham Forest are all monitoring Wyke in light of his superb form this season.

This season's League Two player of the year award, meanwhile, will be contested by the Cambridge pair of Paul Mullin and Wes Hoolahan as well as Forest Green's Jamille Matt.

Norwich duo Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia and Brentford's Ivan Toney are up for the Championship gong.

EA Sports Young Player of the Season will go to either Blackburn's Harvey Elliot, Reading's Michael Olise or Norwich's Max Aarons.

The winners will be announced on Thursday night.
