It was a 1-0 defeat for Carlisle United at Bolton Wanderers as Eoin Doyle's first-half goal was the difference.

It left the Blues five points adrift of the play-off places with four games to go.

United fans gave us their views on the game and their remaining top-seven chances.

Bolton showed real quality especially 1st half & were very slick & easy on the eye. Carlisle played with a lot of heart last half hour after Bolton got deeper. Again missing a fox in the box & a bit of precision. Such a bonkers season that anything still possible however unlikely (@BackoSkiddaw)

We are fighting but struggling with the end product. Maybe the Sat-Tue fixture pile up is catching up with us. Bolton got lucky with their goal and on another night we may have equalised as the home side grew ever more nervy. It's not over, but play-offs are slipping away! (@cumbrianbluess)

A valiant display lacking only in quality. Plenty of tired legs on show, which isn’t surprising at this stage of the fixture congestion. I think finishing five points off the play-offs would represent a good return from the final four games. (@nathan_ridley_)

Well we certainly went for it 2nd half and played some decent stuff at times. Their defence is a force, and we couldn't find a way through tonight. It was a game we needed to get a cheeky win to stay in touch, not to be, I fear the dream is dead! (@LindaNi121202)

I'll say it again. Never really look like scoring and with Zanzala out who realistically will hit the net other than relying (again) on Mellish. Take Mellish out and you can see how short Patrick, Kayode, Allesandra, Toure etc are in front of goal. (@GlacialGlory)

Played well and unlucky to come away with nothing. Really limited Bolton to few chances. Playoffs not a complete write off but unlikely. Credit to Anderton coming in at CB and Kayode did well in his first start since injury. (@f_analytics)

Thought we deserved at least a point due to the way we played in the 2nd half. Play-offs probably out of our reach now but....who knows with Carlisle it's always a roller coaster. (@tracy_sturgess)

Good effort tonight against a strong in form team. Beat Harrogate and Exeter beat Newport then 2 points behind with 3 to play, still hope. (@StevePinguey)

Second half was really good, all Carlisle, just couldn’t score. However that’s been the issue in the last 3-4 games. This season is over but something to build on next year. Wouldn’t be surprised if we win the next two to get my hopes up then lose the remainder! (@stewelsh)

I didn't genuinely expect anything. We put up a decent show overall - especially second half - but weren't clinical enough. Out of our reach now. Need to hit next season with automatic promotion a target. Time to move up and out this league. (@scholes_peter)

Played well first part of the season then went to pot this season will be remembered for our ens position and at this rate will be 13 or 14 which isn’t acceptable need a few changes for next season and a change of style can’t play long ball every week in front of fans (@Alistairwest6)

Season over now (@markbeattie32)

No hope of the play-offs. Need to start planning for next season, keep most the squad together. Actually hasn’t been a bad year and you’d find it hard to single a player out for playing poorly all year. A lot better players than the previous season (@xx_glenny)

Murdered first half. Bolton just played through us. Second half was pretty even but we just struggle to create chances from open play. (@fozzybear19)
