It was a second successive goalless draw as Carlisle United and Port Vale played out a stalemate at Brunton Park.

It left the Blues two points outside the play-off places with five games to play.

Here's what some of the United faithful made of the game and Carlisle's play-off chances.

Both teams could have played all weekend and not scored. We are better defensively but the strikers aren't doing as well as before. If we can find our shooting boots then we will give ourselves a good chance of sneaking into the play-offs. (@cumbrianbluess)

Not an easy watch! Thought Port Vale looked cut from a similar cloth to Carlisle & were physical, gritty & very well organised. They stood up to our power & we lacked enough guile to unpick them. Do think our front 3 look better running at defences with the ball at their feet. (@BackoSkiddaw)

Case of what might have been, by the end we were trying to bludgeon our way through with long balls/throw ins. Probably need four wins out of five to make play-offs! (@CowellLes1975)

The game was a real grind, we again lacked the guile and know how to break a well organised defence, one criticism would be the lack of variation, we didn’t change our approach all game and this was easy pickings for the Port Vale defence, play-offs hanging by thread (@matty017)

Probably a fair result. Solid defensively but credit to Port Vale’s defence. If Kayode could have started Carlisle may have got more out of the aerial tennis that was going on. (@f_analytics)

The team looked a shade tired. Insufficient zip/drive in movement and passing, 2 games per week every week really starting to show. Plenty of effort but just too laboured in key areas. One defeat and play off dream is over (@Glass942)

Not the worst performance but definitely not the best, looked short of ideas at times and could’ve done with speeding it up a bit towards the end. Massive game Tuesday - it’s not over yet! (@NavyDave94)

Still all to play for. Point better than nothing. Win Tuesday, which we could easily do if the team clicks, then back on. Still a lot of points to play for. Not over until it’s over. Stay positive! (@MikeRice1987)

Just looked a bit short of ideas at times. Massive game Tuesday. Win and it’s on. Lose and it’s over. (@parkinsonross)

Dour game, but we're still in with a fighting chance of play offs. (@RonnieSmith1974)

Plenty action, not enough quality am afraid..... however PV defended and battled well. Not much between the sides tbh. Thought we were in danger of conceding for a period in the 2nd half but we recovered and went for it...hope the constant subbing of Partick for Toure isn't just to give him game time. For me his awareness isnt what OP's is, therefore isnt as effective. 2 points off 7th now, and a tough trip on Tuesday.....on paper. (@LindaNi121202)

Happy with a point. (@dubhead77)

Long ball, head tennis, and the ball out of play almost as much as in play. Frustrating and disappointing game. Still a very slim chance of play offs. (@peterjo91525330)

Once again there for the taking. Baffling once again why he didn’t start Tanner. Really feel for the kid. Tactically not there again. Need to win on Tuesday now but anything is possible. Hopefully Evatt's lot cant deal with pressing or long ball (@JoeBardsley74)

Criminal the amount of times we got the ball into their box and didn’t get anyone on the end of it! Either not enough players attacking or all in a line... (@NeilHawkins)

Hate to say it I really do but I think that's our season over. That was atrocious, where is the passion and desire to win and want to make the play-offs? There is no excuse today at all the weather, was great, we're on home turf, pitch is good, no wind so we bottled it. (@AdamStoddart007)

Absolutely dreadful performance. Could anybody see what the game plan was to win that one? Disagree with Lummy that determination was there, it simply was not. Only 2 efforts on target! Game cried out for a positive sub at half time but we allowed Vale to do it instead. Poor! (@Andythehood)

We’d struggle big time if we went up like Northampton and Swindon looks like we will finish top ten but we’re light years off a club like Lincoln who keep on improving on and off the pitch (@keithelliott94)
