The EFL has confirmed the dates for this season's play-offs - and also announced when next season's fixtures will be released.

If Carlisle United manage to finish in League Two's top seven, they will then go into play-off semi-final action on Thursday, May 20 at either 6pm or 8.15pm.

That is the date for the division's first leg games, with the second legs being played on Sunday, May 23 at 12.30pm and 6.30pm respectively.

As usual, fourth will face seventh and fifth will play sixth in the semi-finals.

The winners will then contest the final at Wembley on Monday, May 31 at 3pm.

United are currently three points outside the top seven ahead of tomorrow's trip to face seventh-placed Newport County.

It has also been confirmed that, while the Championship and League Two will finish the current 46-game season on Saturday, May 8 - Championship games starting at 12.30pm and League Two games, including United against Walsall, at 3pm - the final League One fixtures will now be held the following day with midday kick-offs.

The Blues, meanwhile, now know when they will learn their fixtures for the 2021/22 season, whether they are in League One or Two.

The EFL have confirmed that fixture release day has been scheduled for Thursday, June 24.

Fixtures will be announced at 9am that day.
