Two of Carlisle United’s best home-grown stars will appear at a special online event to recall their time coming through the Brunton Park ranks.

Matt Jansen and Paul Murray will attend a virtual event next week hosted by the Blues’ supporters club London Branch which focuses on youth development.

They will be joined by long-serving head of academy coaching David Wilkes and foundation phase coach Robbie Edgar, who will give insights into Carlisle’s current work on nurturing young talent.

Jansen and Murray were two of the stars of United’s youth system in the 1990s, coming through Wilkes’ under-18 team before going on to play in the Premier League and for England’s Under-21s, Jansen also making the full England squad.

The former ‘Brunton Babes’ will talk about their experiences as youngsters at United and their progression to the top.

The virtual event, titled ‘The Kids Are United’ and next Thursday, November 26 at 8pm, is open to all fans, who are asked to register in advance here.

The London Branch say helping Carlisle’s academy has long been one of their priorities.

The fans’ group contributed £2,750 towards the cost of equipment as recently as last month.

The virtual event is the latest in a series of online initiatives run by the capital-based supporters’ branch.

Dave Brown, branch chair said: “We are looking forward to welcoming all Carlisle fans to our next virtual event.

“It is fitting that this should be focused on the development of the Under 16 youngsters within the club set-up as these are the future for our club”.
