Former Scottish international Brett Carter will be back in the chocolate, blue and gold next season.

The full-back has signed a new one-year deal with Whitehaven that will see him at the Recreation Ground for the 2021 Betfred Championship season.

Carter joined Haven from his hometown club Barrow Raiders for the 2020 term which was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic.

He said he is looking forward to a new season and showing what he has to offer to Gary Charlton’s side.

“I’ve enjoyed the short amount of time I’ve spent at Whitehaven,” said Carter.

“I feel that with last season being cut short I never really got the chance to show what I can offer to the team.

“I’m looking forward to continuing the challenge both mentally and physically and see what I can offer to the club.

“I’m happy to have signed a deal and like everyone else looking forward to playing again.”

Haven head coach Gary Charlton is pleased to have Carter back on board. He added: “We know what we get with Brett. He’s a good utility back that can play a number of positions in the backs which gives us great cover.

“He’s experienced, returns the ball strongly and is a good player. Happy to have him back on board.”

Carter has also played for Workington Town and made five appearances for the Scotland RL side playing in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

The 32-year-old played three games for Haven in the curtailed 2020 season and he joins a squad who are all keen to recommence training and playing after a year that saw the 2020 season restricted to only six games.

More good news for Whitehaven fans is that two of the Australian signings for 2021 will be arriving in West Cumbria next week.
